SEO and original content
If you’re going to design a web page, plan to do so from the ground up. You’ll need a domain that is relevant to the site content, web page design that makes excellent and error-free use of HTML code (among other types), and page content that is both informative and unique. In this article, we’ll look at page content, and explain the importance of original, unique writing.
Many times, in surfing the web, one encounters a web page that looks very interesting, only to begin reading the actual content, and be disappointed by poor spelling, even poorer grammar, or content that is obviously taken from another source. My reaction to such sites, and I’m sure it is mirrored by thousands or even millions of others, is to point my mouse at the X, and click it. And when it comes to content that has been duplicated, the situation is eveen worse, because it is not only an insult to the visitors, it is a theft of intellectual property. In most countries, plagiarism is a serious crime, and is punishable by imprisonment, a stiff monetary fine, or both.
Used as web page content, duplication can also have a detrimental effect on your page ranking. Search engine algorithms are thought by most SEO experts to be able to recognize a duplicated web page, and penalize a site which uses it. Even worse, if your site is the original source, but is indexed after a site that copies you, it could be YOUR site that gets penalized, through absolutely no fault of your own. It has become increasingly more important for webmasters to make sure that the content they publish is unique, to avoid being considered a duplicate of other sites by search engines, if not the more severe accusation of plagiarism.
For this reason, the use of duplicate content checking utilities has become popular, sometimes even essential, in web page construction. One of the most popular duplicate content checkers is CopyScape, a pay-per-use online service that compares the contents of a document to millions or even billions of other documents contained on the worldwide web. For sites that purchase their content from inhouse or freelance coopywriters, a tool such as CopyScape has become indispensible, protecting them from paying someone else for stealing the work of an unknown third party, which could result in lawsuits, search engine penalties, or other undesirable effects.

With all this talk about theft, its a wonder there are any writers out there that will even bother to work for websites. But I guess that’s where writing for hire comes in, isn’t it? So that it really makes no difference what happens after the text is written. Man, I wouldn’t even bother with that job, if it were me. Original content, for SEO strategy, or just to be honest, seems like the natural thing to do.
