This is probably one of the oldest discussions in SEO history is location based searches. We all know about the google redirection based on country that happens based on the searchers IP address but how about the websites IP address? Does google actually weigh IP addresses that are registered to the country that you are searching higher then outside of the country? Most SERP’s agree that yes this is the case that it does hold some weight where you are hosted. This is one of the “niche” or target area’s of hosting companies such as hostingshield.com located in Vancouver BC Canada.

that being said what are some of the other variables that are in play to location based searches? As posted by resources on sites such as webmasterworld and other seo related sites domain names and even links from Canadian based sites affect how your site will rank within the specific search engines of each search engine (such as google.ca and ca.yahoo.com). So these three factors do play a major role in how your sites ranks within Canadian based search engines and should be used whenever possible.

- Canadian Based IP/Hosting

- Backlinks from Canadian sites

- Use a .CA domain name

Moving on what are some of the other tips that we have for ranking in Canadian based search engines?

- Submission to Canadian based directories

- Submissions to Canadian based local directories (such as yelp, google local etc..)

- Use your basic SEO On page optimizations

- Keywords on the page for your search terms

I wouldn’t call link building as “wasting time” because you are actually building trust and authority to your site.

This is an investment to increase your website value.

If you can manage to get 3k visitors, how many of those visitors are converting or giving you profit?

Of course, we can’t see much on new sites but it really matters to draw targeted traffic.

Try to check your bounce rate, time spent on your site, page views per visitor, adverts earning, affiliate sales, etc.

Also, check your current ranking in search results for your targeted keywords and the only best way to improve the ranking is by building links.

So, I would say you need to build back links in order to increase your website value (traffic, money, etc).

Great Way to Gain Free Backlinks

Another thing many people do in order to make the links in their articles more powerful, is to get backlinks to the articles you submit to the article directories. An increasing amount of people are creating ‘linkwheels’, which is the process of making, say, 10 articles, linking them together and each one with a link to your main site. However there is a lot of mixed views regarding whether this is classed as spamming, in the eyes of Google. In my view, this will not make you rank lower, but the links will just not count so much.

If you want to rank high in the searches for a very competitive keyword, you may want to get a freelance writer to write your articles for you, in order to stay ahead of your competition. A lot of freelance writers forums exist, allowing you to save time and a lot of money. Writing several article each week is very time consuming and paying a company to write for you can get expensive. Freelancers on a writing forum will be able to supply you with articles at a fraction of the price.

There is no rule that you must build 2 or 3 links a day. And if there is a rule like you must bring 4 links for a day then how can you arrange 4 links a day??? Will you buy those links huh??? that is not advisable. So now what I am telling you to do is make a strategy for your link building for example you will do 200 ds for Monday on 2 or three keywords for your site, on Tuesday 150 social book marking for same keywords, 200 article submission on Wednesday, 20 blog comments on Thursday and 20 Answer posting on Friday, Send 100 link exchange request on Saturday and yes enjoy you weekend on sunday don’t do anything go for sun bath on Dog Green Sector Ohama Beach and next week repeat same strategy for your another website but check your website ranking and page rank before you start and check again after a month.

It seems that Google searches on terms that are related to iPhone SMS information are being used to return results that direct unsuspecting users to rogue AV sites. According to the Websense Security Labs ThreatSeeker Network blog malicious URLs related to Apple iPhone SMS/MMS searches are ranking as high as result number six. Examples of the kind of searches that are being poisoned include “iphone how to send multiple chats over sms” amongst others.

Websense researchers have tracked the infection trail should a user click on a link controlled by the attackers using this particular rogue antivirus coupled to SEO poisoning scheme. It appears that they will be taken on the usual runaround of 302 redirects until they land on a scareware site that does the old ‘run into a room shouting fire’ trick and then try and sell you a fire extinguisher. Although in this case it is displaying a warning that your computer is infected with malware and then offering to let you buy and download fake antivirus software in order to clear up the non-existent infection.

Websense concludes that “The use of Blackhat SEO leading to Rogue AV will only increase in the upcoming year. This scare tactic has proved to be a very successful method of social-engineering users into installing software onto their computers and tricking them into paying for it”.

Google Wave will be available next Wednesday to 100,000 developers and Google Apps customers. However, cybercriminals have already take advantage of the launch by starting black hat SEO campaigns to turn interest in Wave into a computer infection.

Traditional SEO campaigns boost a Website’s ranking in search results using relevant keywords. On the other hand, black hat SEO campaigns have the same goal, but they use a different method. These campaigns flout search engine guidelines about acceptable practices, like prohibitions on the misuse of text and page elements.

On occasion, these campaigns also embed malicious codes in a top-ranking Web page and redirect links to their own pages.

For Google Wave, its search terms have produced a list of search results that included malicious Websites.

Websense, an online security firm, has been tracking down these black hat campaigns on the Google Wave.

As narrated by Thomas Claburn of Information Week: “Google knows that cybercriminals track popular search terms religiously so they can use those terms to hijack searchers. And it watches closely over its index using automated and manual methods to remove links leading to malicious sites. Chances are that the sites spotted by Websense have already been removed by Google. But it’s almost always playing catch-up.”

Ever since search engine optimisation was first created, there has been a great debate as to whether one should use white hat SEO or resort to black hat tactics. The more the internet marketing industry expanded the more intense the debate became.

While both forms have their advantages and disadvantages, they are very different ways of implementing a search engine optimisation. One can either choose to go white hat SEO or black hat, but one can never implement them both. Once black hat tactics are applied the purity of white hat SEO is lost. So what exactly is white hat SEO?

Clean cut white hat SEO
When you choose to incorporate white hat SEO it means that you follow the correct and ethical procedure of search engine optimisation. You follow SEO by the book from the creation of your site to the introduction of it to the online world.

Your main focus when using white hat SEO is the impression you create on your visitors. You want them to find your website naturally and not be lured onto your site through a deceitful manner. Incorporating white hat SEO ultimately means that you obtain a good reputation amongst internet users.
In order to benefit from a white hat approach, it is important that your content is unique and fresh. It also has to be relevant to the theme of your site. Your link building should be legit and no other unethical means to artificially increase your ranking on search engine results pages should be used.

Wearing the black hat is dangerous
At some point, almost all website owners have thought about making using black hat tricks. This is because they realise how difficult it is to compete against other websites in their niche. White hat SEO often takes a lot of patience but eventually it can secure a strong search engine optimisation campaign.
Black hat SEO is the opposite of white hat search engine optimisation. It is the implementation of unethical and deceitful means of improving ranking and driving traffic to a website.

Black hat search engine optimisation techniques may ensure instant success because it uses things like keyword stuffing, hidden text, cloaked pages as well as link farms but it does not give you a very good online reputation. People who get lured onto a site through these black hat techniques do not trust making transactions on these websites nor do they return.

Why breaking the rules does not pay
When you look to black hat SEO to get your website more visibility it is not only your reputation that gets scorned but your site may be banned or penalised.
Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and many other search engines are always aware of website owners making use of unethical search engine optimisation. These techniques make it difficult for others who do use white hat SEO to compete and therefore, search engines hope to eradicate the use of black hat tricks by penalising or restricted those who don’t obey the rules.

A review of the top 100 fastest growing ‘start-up’ companies, as published by BRW magazine in August 2009, showed that just 42% of these firms included a targeted search engine optimisation structure on their websites. This might include the use of relevant search terms being used throughout the website, such as targeting relevant keywords in the title tag and description metatags, as well as the focus of page content or website structure to help improve the chances of the website ranking well on Google and other search engines for their product or service.

Nearly all of the 100 companies listed were using a website, either as their primary business tool or as a marketing or information site for their business. However, the majority of these have yet to implement these SEO basics to take advantage of reaching potential new customers who may not know of their business, but are searching the web for their type of business.

Web Marketing Workshop, a search engine marketing consultancy in Sydney, conducted the survey and their Managing Director, Clive Hawkins, commented on the results: “This proportion of business websites that have yet to utilize the opportunities for new business growth through search engines is symptomatic of the lack of awareness or perceived importance about the impact of SEO techniques. They may be using search advertising, such as Google AdWords, but if they have a website, they should also be developing search engine optimisation as a more cost-effective long term marketing strategy.”

Hawkins continued: “Clearly these top 100 fastest growing companies are doing something right in their business sectors, and they should be congratulated on their performance over the previous financial year. However, if nearly 60% of these companies are doing little to create even more opportunities for business through their websites, then it’s surprising since once of the essentials for any website these days is to get search engine optimisation basics sorted out. You can only wonder how much faster these companies might have grown if they had fully utilised the potential for search engine marketing for their businesses!”

According to Peter Crisafi, Vice President of dzine it, Inc., a New York web development company that specializes in organic search engine optimization (SEO) and serves clients around the world, there is no real secret to proper search engine optimization, regardless of what your current web developer tells you.

“Sure, search engine optimization is an art and a true professional can help you boost your search engine ranking quicker than the average Joe,” says Crisafi, “but for those who self publish, or even those who want to keep tabs on the web development company that is managing their site, there a few time-tested techniques that will certainly make a difference.”

Crisafi offers the following advice:

Proper Search Engine Optimization is the Key to Successful Web Development

“While many web development firms will try and convince you that pay-per-click advertising and banner campaigns are the way to go when it comes to increasing your online presence among popular search engines,” says Crisafi. “Although these methods help, proper search engine optimization for your website, from the very early stages of your website development project, is the key to success.”

A Good Website Design Should Be More than Just a Pretty Picture

As Crisafi notes, proper professional SEO work begins during the initial phases of web development which is why it is imperative that you know the keywords and phrases that you wish to target before your site gets off the ground. In doing so, he says, you or your website developer can develop your website around your key phrases.

Don’t be Afraid to Spice up your Website with Flash

“Don’t let anyone talk you out of adding a Flash component to your website,” says Crisafi.

Historically, he notes, sites heavy in Flash fared rather poorly when it came to search engine rankings. However, a good graphic design firm, with expertise in Flash video and animation, can actually utilize multimedia to increase search engine ranking and make your site more visually pleasing as well.

Links are Important

When it comes to linking, links from your site are actually just as valuable for good search engine ranking, if not more, than links to your site. Crisafi warns, however, that there can also be too much of a good thing.

“The difference between having a couple of links on each page of your site to having ten or more is astounding,” says Crisafi. “The latter can actually hurt your search engine rankings, so you want to be wise about linking to other sites.”

He also notes that when linking to a site, be sure that it is relevant and trusted.

Follow these simple rules, says Crisafi, and you will see your search engine ranking dramatically improve.
