Instead of spending your time looking at link building speed, spend more time looking at quality sites to get those links from.  Backlinks from important or well respected existing sites, or industry specific directories can be priceless.  They are also the rare icons, and do not provide backlinks for just anyone. Link building speed will increase rapidly with link farms and directories that offer to give you 100′s of listings, but could be detrimental to how bots rate the site.  Get your site listed in Yahoo, and Google, and DMOZ.  After those, look for directories that have similar content, and dedicated focus.  There are no quick shortcuts to real success here, as anywhere.  Geographical directories are a good idea, as they
provide cross referencing to your site.

Before you can get the highest quality backlink building speed, you must have a high quality site for them to link to.  Get your site a few social media links, if you wish, but remember that a backlink is a vote of confidence in your site, so make every one you get count by moderate link building speed based on quality links, not on sheer numbers of mediocre or poor links.  Don’t try to rush the process, links happen over time.

As a site ages, it gains links naturally.  If your domain has been active for a while, you may be okay to use faster link building speed.  Even then, avoid links from sites and directories that give your site a “negative” image, to human visitors as well as bots.  Slower growth through natural link building is a preferable trait to search engines.
