A very common type of a site wide link is the blogroll found on many blog sites. Every page that loads, the blogroll is reloaded on the sidebar, or sometime in a header or footer. That can be an effective way to build relevance, but it can also mean loss of ranking. If the site that is using site wide links anchored to your website is not relevant to what you offer, or if the link anchor text does not reflect your site name or purpose, you may be simply asking for trouble.
On the other hand, if you have done the proper thing for any business to do, and networked a little, you’ll have links to other relevant sites, and may be reciprocally linked back to from them. This builds the relevance of your website, and rives your ranking higher. Site wide links are often used between partner sites, and the blogroll itself is intended to allow a blog owner a way to introduce their online associates to all visitors.
The problem is that a blogroll is easily abused, bogus links being redirected, keyword abuse, and spam are all possible evils. And even though you would never resort to such Black Hat tactics, the search engine algorithms are subject to change as a defense, and that would affect your site, even though you were only using the most reputable of SEO techniques.
Ordinarily, whether it is a blogroll type of site wide link, or any other form of backlink, even a pay per click ad campaign, relevance is a key ingredient to building the same. If your site is randomly associated with a dozen unconnected sites, it doesn’t show any focus of intent, and will suffer for that omission.

although having relevant links makes a lot of sense, but it should in no way be confused with networking. networking will have you teaming up with partner websites which will provide you with expansion solution or services. as no business territory is stepped upon it will be mutually beneficial to all concerned.
