In a real-world store, you expect your customers to inspect the products closely, picking them, reading the front side and back labels, and examining the demonstration models. Once a product has been added to the stock, it can be compared to similar products on shelves. But eCommerce exists in a virtual world, and the rules are a little different.
First, it is entirely up to you, the owner of the shop to make sure your online products can receive a fair evaluation. You’ll need product descriptions, photos from different angles, and some customer testimonials wouldn’t hurt either. Since the customer can’t be there in person, try to make them feel as though they are.
Compare your site to the top rated sites of your competitors, and what out what they are doing that you could try. Have sales, and run specials. Give special discounts for multiple purposes, and run PPC campaigns that tell the world about them.
The internet is growing rapidly, and online sales will only increase as time goes on. No other medium allows a small shop owner to compete directly with large corporations, but in rder to do so, you’ve got to use the same marketing strategies.
Remember your customers, above all. Try to answer their every question, just as though you were standing with them trying to make a sale, because in a very real sense that is exactly what is happening. If you make the potential customer feel unwelcome, or of little importance, they’ll click a link, and find a friendlier place to shop. Your goal is to establish your website as the friendliest, easiest to use website of its type. In return, your customers will thank you with purchases, and that spells success.

as making the website is a one time expense i believe that the owner should go all out once and make the best possible website that his resources allow and then make periodic changes as and when his budgets permit. which brings me to my point, the hiring of a good developer, which can make or brake your business, hire someone with experience and credentials so that you have a good website (base) to start from
