What is your Google penalty plan? (what if google bans you?)
Even though we all hope it won’t be necessary, it is a good idea to have a Google penalty plan in place. One important thing to keep in mind is that while Google is the current largest driver of traffic to websites, it hasn’t always been that way, and likely won’t be the leader forever. Google, after all, is only a search engine; an information service, if you will. And while so much of SEO work is designed specifically with Google in mind, we should never forget that people buy our products and use our services, not Google, or any other search engine. Instead of waiting to see if something causes Google to ban your site, incorporate other marketing tactics into your SEO. Take steps to reach out and contact your prospective clients, bringing them to your site without ever using a search engine.
One method for doing this is through the use of message forums. Find forums that are related to your product or services, and become an active participant. Post regularly, reply to other people’s messages, and maintain a favorable image of yourself, your company, and your website. Don’t spam the forums, or you’ll be banned from them, not to mention the bed reputation you’ll create. Instead, post informational, and intelligent messages, and use a tagline (or signature) that promotes your website in a clear, positive way. Avoid using images in forums, unless you know that such things are approved, and use the messages you post to make a reader WANT to visit your site and learn more about you and your products or services.
Similarly, write articles that can be posted on blogs, at article directories, and other places that are related to the content of your website. Being related to your website is the key. If your site markets custom made bicycles, then there’s very little reason to post about it on a blog that caters to coffee drinkers..very often. Occasionally, you may want to write an article that combines bicycles and coffee drinking, but that won’t be something that can is possible very often without risking a reputation as a spammer.
Undertake a mixed online/offline promotion campaign. Your satisfied clients are almost certain to know other people who are in need of the same services. People in your neighborhood, members of your social organizations or fraternities, and even chance encounters on the local sidewalk can provide you with new opportunities to promote your site. Always be ready the chance to promote your website, no matter where or when, and use that opportunity to help drive traffic.
Google is the current leader in search engines, but there are others. Yahoo has been an internet favorite for twice as long as Google has existed, and MSN is backed by some of the biggest players in the Internet business world. Even Alexa and DMOZ can drive traffic to your site, with or without the help of Google. Instead of placing all of your website ambitions into a single basket, incubate promotional eggs in every available location, because you never know which ones are likely to to hatch first, or grow to be the strongest.
