4 simple SEO techniques
There are four simple SEO techniques, if you want to have a quick start on the ranking process, that will give your website a boost. Each provides relevance for the content of the page, and encourage search engine spiders to crawl your site often.
Meta Tags
Applying SEO to your meta tags may be the easiest way to establich relevance for your web page. First, you’ll want to use the “keywords” meta tag to list the key phrases to best define the page. It is vital that your keywords appear in the contents of the page, as you know, but it is equally important that they are used in the meta tags that contain the page title and description. If they are not used properly in these areas, the search engines will lower the apparent page value for those keywords, and your rating will most likely suffer.
ALT Tags
SEO can be applied to images in three ways, through the filename, the alt tag, and the image description. The description itself is not always used, but the filename and alt tag should both contain one of more of your keywords. As you see, the more often keywords are identified with the page, the more it seeme to be related to the page contents, and the higher its relevance rating. Images that show relevance reinforce that your web page actually delivers what it claims.
Anchor Links
The links that are used on other websites to refer to your should also be chosen with SEO in mind. As we’ve pointed out repeatedly, the power of keywords to boost or reduce your web site popularity is vast, and reaches even to the links that point to you.
Page Footer
This is a spot that is often overlooked for SEO, but can be very useful. Adding a footer to the page that includes the page keywords is like an extra way to sneak a bit more importance into the equation. Nothing fancy is required in the footer, just a simple simple statement such as “Go-group.com has been supplying bicycle repair and quality touring bikes since 1995″, where bicycle repair and touring bikes are both keywords for the site.
Remember, the keywords of your web pages are like landmarks to help virtual visitors get there. Or street signs that show the road you want to turn on to. But if the landmark is hard to find, or the street sign isn’t clear enough to read, then visitors won’t find your site, but will end up going somewhere else. Be sure to choose the landmarks that apply best to what you are offering, and then build those landmarks into brightly illuminated beacons by using them intelligently and often to promote the site.
