Here are some thoughts that many experts on Search Engine Optimization laugh at when they hear them:

1. SEO is about fooling search engines. You really can’t fool search engines because you’d technically be fooling people, which is a tough thing to do. SEO isn’t just about “optimizing content” – it’s generally about analyzing what people want and giving them the appropriate responses through lots of analysis and creativity. Besides, websites that really fool search engines are actually penalized.

2. Search engines aren’t really that popular. Nothing could be farther from the truth. How many times do you use a search engine every day? Multiply that with billions of people and the days in a year. Get the picture?

3. SEO is a single step process. SEO isn’t just about tagging keywords. It involves everything from analyzing keyword trends all the way to qualitative internet marketing. People who work with SEO do lots of things every day. Their work never ends.

4. SEO is for IT only. Well it used to be, but everybody who’s anybody is doing it now – companies, groups and individual people who use the internet. Even if they’re not experts, they’re learning how to do these things, sometimes even on their own.

5. SEO works only when there are many viewers. Wrong, it’s the other way around. SEO brings people to your site.

So don’t ever think that any of these things are true. Experts will just laugh at you.
