Today, we’ll look at some basic tips for good on-page and on-site SEO. SOme simple strategies can boost your performance with search engines dramatically, but most of these tips have the advantage of providing sharper, cleaner, faster pages as an end product, which is always a plus.
Drop the Underscore
Instead of using underscores in your filenames, witch to using hyphens. For one thing, hyphenating a multiple word filename is easier to read, and for another, a dash is easier to type, and more familiar, to most internet users. While most sites are not visited by a typed-in url, it does happen, and will happen more often if the filename is easy t remember and type.
Use Headlines
Your primary page headline should be keyworded, and appear as an H1 headline. Search engines look for this to help build relevance. They also examine H2 and H3 headlines for secondary keywords, so make the most of your page, and use the headlines appropriately.
Make Your Point
Use your primary keyword in bold/strong format at least once in the contents of the page. This reinforces your relevance to both search engines and visitors, and provides a great “eye anchor” for people to notice as they scan the page.
KISS
KISS, or Keep It Simple Silly. Keep your code to content ratio low. This means to fill out your pages with information to attract a visitor’s attention. But it is also an opportunity to make sure that all of your code is correct. The less complicated your coding, the easier it is to troubleshoot and make changes to.
