Video searches, optimizing for Video SEO
Video can be a great way to show off your product or services. A well designed video can provide visitors with insight, humor or any bit of atmosphere or data you wish to share. And there are some things that can be done to make the video on your page more search engine friendly.
Use meta tags for the video. Just as you would for a web page, optimize the code for your video. Be sure to include “video” as one of your keywords, and use it in the page title, and at least once in the text content of the page, if there is any. Use additional keywords in the same manner.
Be sure that your website appears in the video. This is for branding purposes, if the video should happen to go viral. You never know where your video will turn up, so make certain that anyone who watches it knows how to get back to the site that created it. If a person can’t find your site to get more information, they’ll go somewhere else, so it becomes critical that you provide exposure of your domain and site to all viewers.
Some methods are to use a semi-transparent overlay, or simply add the URL text at the start or end of the video; or even better, use it in both locations.
Distribute the video. Post the video at social networking sites, and major video sharing sites, such as YouTube, Google Video, and Yahoo. If the video is good, it will begin to spread as people refer it to more and more groups of people. But you have to get it in front of many people people as you can right away, so post it on all popular sites where you are allowed to do so. Remember, though, that if your video is primarily a sales pitch, it may be deleted as spam from some video networks.
Use the word “video” in the filename. That way, you know that visitors are aware of the nature of the URL. “worlds-fastest-cars-video.avi” is going to attract more viewers than “fast-cars.avi”, because it is apparent, even without knowing filename extensions, that the file is a video.
The use of video can add a whole new dimension to your website, and a video going viral can alter your web rankings forever. Provide viewers with entertaining and informative contents, and they will want to see more. Since your ultimate goal is to keep a visitor clicking links on your site as long as possible, use multiple videos to provide a tutorial series, or a comparison of similar products.
