One of the practical uses of knowing the basic terms popularly used in SEO is that you will better understand any online and offline resource on Search Engine Optimization that uses such terms as you go on. So here are some words to start you off.
SEO – short for Search Engine Optimization. If you don’t know this by the time you start working then chances are you won’t get far. SEO is what you will be doing from here on out, that is, making your website as search engine friendly as possible.
On Page – SEO manifested inside your website, usually found within your site’s web content.
Off Page – SEO done outside your site, such as backlinks.

SERP – stands for Search Engine Result Pages. These are the lists that come out from a search engine when based on a set of words you used to search with.
Keyword – this is what you use to search for and is the basis for the SERPs.

Back Links – Direct links posted on other websites (usually affiliates) that lead to your own.
PR – This is a measurement of what your website has in terms of quality and reliability. Getting good PR for your site is like getting reputation for a company.
